Ella will officially be one week old tomorrow! It took 28 hours of labor, but our little angel finally made her entrance into the world on Sunday, March 21, at 10:51 am, weighing in at 7 pounds 14 ounces and measuring 21 inches long!. The exact same weight and length and both her mommy and daddy! She loves to snort, which was one of the first things she did upon birth. We spend the next couple of days recovering in the hospital, and then, brought our little munchkin home on Tuesday.
All the grandparents were able to meet Ella in the hospital. They met her about an hour after her birth, after being cleaned up and having a chance to bond with mommy and daddy. My mom and Jim were able to stay with us for the week, which was a huge help. I'm so glad they were able to witness and experience her first week of life. We look forward to their next visit in the next month or so. Ella had a great time bonding with both sets of grandparents.
I am a milk machine, and often feel like a dairy farm. John has become an expert diaper changer and baby burper. He has been a very involved and helpful daddy! Ella is such an amazing little girl and we feel so blessed to finally be able to hold her in our arms. We are amazed at how strong she is for such a small baby! When being burped over the shoulder, she actually lifts her head slightly. She also shows evidence of rolling over when put on the comforter. Her arm and leg strength can be quite challenging when attempting to change a diaper or outfit.
The dogs seem to be adjusting nicely to our newest family member. They are curious, yet they keep their distance a bit. They can't quite figure out what she is yet. When sleeping or in her swing, they will cautiously tip toe over to grab a quick sniff. Mac will also sneak into the bedroom and cozy up at the edge of the co-sleeper.
First Week Highlights:
- Smiles often, while sleeping and when awake. Mom says she actually saw her laugh!
- Extremely alert. She tracks voices with her eyes and enjoys staring at her family
- A peaceful little angel during the day. The nights seems to be a different story; some better than others. Her most active period seems to be from 1-5 am straight!.
- Voracious appetite! In fact, when we attended The Newborn Club, Ella had only lost a little over an ounce of her birth weight! The nurse insisted that I was feeding her formula.
- Good pooper! Never misses a chance to mess up a diaper!
